The Rotherham United Esports Team was founded in September 2018. Co-Founders Robert Hawden and David Raybould put together a proposal to Head Of Community Jamie Noble during the late summer of that year.
The proposal was in 3 parts. Part 1 was to create Yorkshire's first FIFA Pro Clubs Team. Part 2 was to create a social media presence to engage a new fan base.
Part 3 was to create a FIFA Hub which would become a matchday attraction for Rotherham fans to attend early with their children and enjoy FIFA. Over the last few years, we have grown, and identified other opportunities within the esports industry and many Community tie-ins such as mental health, inclusion, and education.
We have now formed a CIC and have been granted funding to help with people's wellbeing and to additionally aid in the areas of Covid recovery. We plan sporting events and social events, we manage several esports teams, and stream things such as podcasts and other gaming activities.
We now also deliver enrichment for local colleges and we have even identified a national need for our services too. We have added Joe Burrell, Gareth Rogers, and Craig Utley to our leadership team and we are now growing from strength to strength..
We now have some really big ambitions, to build something great, for not just the town of Rotherham, but the entire country! Our first step is to launch The Esports Network which will be coming soon, and we hope that Rotherham United Esports, will be a guiding light for others to follow into the esports world!
